what does argentine

tango look like?

Click here to watch a video of a social event (milonga).

DId you see any roses?

Did you see any over-dramatic poses?

What you saw is a social form of the dance. Although Argentine tango is also danced on stage which is mostly choreographed and over-dramatized for effect, social tango is a result of the connection that happens within the embrace, moving down a counter clockwise line of dance.

There are 3 kinds of embrace:

Close (milonguero), V-embrace (salon) and Open (nuevo).

There are 3 basic forms in social tango:

walking (caminos), turning (giros) and lots of changes of direction (cambios). The dance is basically built on these elements.

There are 3 musical genres in the dance:

Tango, Vals and Milonga. You use the same movements in all three styles but the rhythm is different.
